An initiative of the Least Developed Countries that puts long-term, locally led adaptation first. Malawi is one of six front-runner countries.
LIFE-AR takes a “business unusual” approach to adaptation. Instead of decisions made at the top, it puts local governments, community leaders and residents in charge of designing and carrying out their own adaptation solutions, with more direct access to climate finance.
In Malawi, the initiative was launched in Salima in December 2022 and is piloted in three districts. It covers soil and water conservation, forest landscape restoration and disaster risk management.
