NAP
National Adaptation Plan Process
Supporting multi-sectoral, medium- to long-term adaptation planning and budgeting in Malawi, and bringing climate change adaptation into development planning and policy.
The National Adaptation Plan process aims to reduce the vulnerability of people in Malawi to climate change, and to build the resilience of communities and ecosystems, with gender-equitable capacity to plan and carry out adaptation.
It follows Malawi’s National Adaptation Plan Framework (2020), and was supported by a readiness grant from the Green Climate Fund approved in March 2019. Its expected outcomes were capacity and tools to coordinate future NAP processes, adaptation priorities built into line ministries’ spending plans, private finance for climate risk management, and shared lessons.
The process covers ten sectors, including agriculture, water, health, energy, forestry, wildlife, fisheries, gender and vulnerable groups, infrastructure and industry.
