Technology Needs Assessment, Phase III
Completed
Until 2023
Helping Malawi decide its priority technologies for cutting emissions and adapting to climate change, to support its NDC and the Paris Agreement.
Malawi was one of 24 countries, mainly Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, in the third phase of the global Technology Needs Assessment project. The Environmental Affairs Department coordinated it nationally.
Among the technologies prioritised for energy were solar photovoltaic systems, biogas, wind and mini- and micro-hydro, with solar PV ranked highest for lighting and water pumping. Malawi completed its assessment in 2023.
