LIFE-AR brings locally led adaptation to Rumphi, Salima and Mangochi
Malawi is one of six front-runner countries for the LDC Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience.
The LDC Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR) was launched in Malawi in Salima. Malawi is one of six front-runner countries for the initiative, which the Least Developed Countries Group designed to put long-term, locally led adaptation first.
LIFE-AR is piloted in Rumphi, Salima and Mangochi, with funding from Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. It covers soil and water conservation, forest landscape restoration and disaster risk management, and lets district councils and communities design and lead their own adaptation solutions.
“In terms of climate change, we can no longer conduct business as usual,” said the then Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change, Hon. Eisenhower Mkaka, at the launch.
